Vol. 497 No. 6

Written Answers - Grant Schemes.

Trevor Sargent

Question:

144 Mr. Sargent asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food the nature of each grant scheme operated by his Department since the formation of the Government; the objective of the scheme; and the name of each body or individual grant aided under each scheme. [25939/98]

Details of grant schemes and other support measures operated by my Department are included in the Department's publication, Schemes and Services 1998.

In addition, I announced in October this year details of a winter fodder scheme and a mountain ewe destocking scheme with the objective of meeting fodder and income problems and to help deal with the problem of overgrazing. My main aim is to relieve hardship on the individual farms most affected.

With regard to details of beneficiaries under such schemes and measures, there are upwards of 200,000 clients on the Department's client data base. However, as the Deputy will be aware, it has been the policy of successive Administrations to treat as confidential details of individual beneficiaries under Government schemes.
