Written Answers - Grant Schemes.

Trevor Sargent

Question:

181 Mr. Sargent asked the Minister for Health and Children the nature of each grant scheme operated by his Department since the formation of the Government; the objective of the scheme; and the name of each body or individual grant aided under each scheme. [25941/98]

In the main, grant schemes within the health services are operated by the health boards. The only scheme operated directly by my Department is the national lottery discretionary fund. Under this fund a group, organisation or individual may request a grant from my Department's allocation of national lottery funds towards the cost of health service projects. A standard application form must be completed and is referred to the relevant service division for its assessment, evaluation and recommendation of the proposed project. All applications are forwarded to me for my consideration, with the Department's recommendation.

When the present Government took office, there was a balance of £21,099 available to the me from the 1997 allocation of £2,038,000. In 1998, I have a total of £2,299,000 available to me for discretionary allocations from national lottery funds. Details of the allocations made to date are set out on the following schedules.
