Vol. 497 No. 6

Written Answers - Grant Aid.

Frances Fitzgerald

Question:

198 Ms Fitzgerald asked the Minister for Social, Community and Family Affairs if he will provide funding to the Bosnian community in Dublin in order that it can purchase a premises to develop its work. [26062/98]

My Department's grant schemes are aimed at helping people develop the confidence and the capacity to participate as partners alongside statutory agencies and others in local development initiatives. My Department supports the Bosnian community through one of these initiatives, the community development programme. This programme provides core funding to community development resource centres in communities experiencing social and economic disadvantage.

In addition, capital funding can be made available to projects funded under the community development programme towards the cost of purchasing or renovating premises.

In this regard, I have recently made available a grant of £80,000 to the Bosnian community development project towards the purchase of new premises.
