Vol. 497 No. 6

Written Answers - Social Welfare Benefits.

Andrew Boylan

Question:

201 Mr. Boylan asked the Minister for Social, Community and Family Affairs the reason an appeals officer of his Department will not accept a recommendation that carer's allowance be paid to a person (details supplied) in County Cavan. [26048/98]

The person concerned applied for carer's allowance in July 1998. His claim was disallowed by the deciding officer on the grounds that his means from capital and his farm holding were in excess of the limit for receipt of that payment and also on the grounds that the person concerned was not providing full-time care and attention for his mother.

The person concerned appealed against this decision to the independent social welfare appeals office.

An appeals officer has considered the case and is of the opinion that an oral hearing is required to afford the person concerned the opportunity to present his case. An oral hearing has been arranged for Wednesday, 2 December 1998 in Cavan and the person concerned has been advised accordingly.
