Vol. 497 No. 6

Written Answers - Grant Schemes.

Trevor Sargent

Question:

202 Mr. Sargent asked the Minister for Arts, Heritage, Gaeltacht and the Islands the nature of each grant scheme operated by her Department since the formation of the Government; the objective of the scheme; and the name of each body or individual grant aided under each scheme. [25944/98]

: The Deputy will appreciate that my Department provides grants to many hundreds of individuals and bodies in any single year, particularly in the context of schemes relating to the Gaeltacht, including Gaeltacht housing grants and grants to householders providing accommodation for students attending Irish summer colleges. The detailed information sought by the Deputy would involve the examination of numerous records and would be difficult to justify in the light of the amount of official time and expense involved. If, however, the Deputy wishes to bring to my attention any particular cases he has in mind, I will, of course, be glad to assist him. In the meantime, I am arranging to supply to the Deputy with a copy of my Department's publications under sections 15 and 16 of the Freedom of Information Act, 1997, which set out the functions, records, rules and practices of my Department. These also include details of the grant schemes operated.
