Vol. 497 No. 6

Written Answers - Third Level Fees.

Ruairí Quinn

Question:

70 Mr. Quinn asked the Minister for Education and Science the proposals, if any, he has to reintroduce fees at third level. [25823/98]

I do not intend to reintroduce tuition fees at third level. The Deputy will appreciate that there is no conflict between this position and an honest evaluation of the impact of their abolition. In any event, I believe the issue is now less important as the effects of the abolition on other sectors has been negated as a result of the willingness of the Minister for Finance to agree to substantial funding improvements in all areas of education.
