Vol. 497 No. 7

Written Answers - School Transport.

Breeda Moynihan-Cronin

Question:

192 Mrs. B. Moynihan-Cronin asked the Minister for Education and Science if he will extend the school transport to Barraduff national school, County Kerry, to facilitate persons (details supplied) in County Kerry from the existing pick up point to their house. [26275/98]

The family to whom the Deputy refers reside 0. 8 miles from Barraduff national school, and 0.4 miles from the existing route of service.

Children who do not qualify for free transport on age or distance grounds may be allowed farepaying transport, subject to spare seats being available after all eligible children have been catered for. This is also subject to no extra cost being involved by way of altering or extending the route of the existing service.
As the children in question are not eligible for free transport in the first instance, it is regretted that it would not be open to my Department to extend the service as requested.
