Question:

150 Mr. Perry asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food if a hardship grant will be approved for a person (details supplied) in County Sligo in view of the fact that his herd is locked up due to a reactor animal; if a favourable decision will be made in this regard; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [26326/98]

The holding of the person named was restricted under the TB eradication scheme, following disclosure of a TB reactor in a herd test on 23 October 1998. One of the essential prerequisities for eligibility for hardship grant is that the holding continues to be restricted following a full herd retest. The herd of the person named is scheduled for a re-test later this month. If the holding continues to be restricted after the herd retest and all the other eligibility criteria are met, including receipt of a completed application form, in the local district veterinary office, consideration can be given at that stage by the local district veterinary office to the herdowner's eligibility for hardship grant payment.
