Vol. 498 No. 1

Written Answers. - Dental Services.

Deirdre Clune

Question:

231 Ms Clune asked the Minister for Health and Children if his attention has been drawn to the fact that the waiting period for general dental treatment in the Cork city area is longer than the national average; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [26318/98]

The provision of dental treatment to eligible persons and the maintenance of waiting lists in the Cork city area are the responsibility of the Southern Health Board. I have been advised by the Southern Health Board that the number of people on the waiting list for the Cork city area is 1,185 and the average waiting period is between one to eight weeks. I understand that the board intends to reduce this waiting list considerably by the end of the year.
