Vol. 498 No. 1

Written Answers. - Orthodontic Services.

Trevor Sargent

Question:

243 Mr. Sargent asked the Minister for Health and Children the level of publicly funded orthodontic treatment available to 16 to 20 year olds; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [26514/98]

In accordance with the provisions of section 66 and section 67 of the Health Act, 1970 orthodontic treatment services are provided by health boards following examinations carried out to children in national school. While most treatment is carried out in the adolescent period a small minority of cases, for whatever reason, may not commence treatment until the late teens.
