Vol. 498 No. 1

Written Answers. - Harbours and Piers.

Austin Deasy

Question:

50 Mr. Deasy asked the Minister for the Marine and Natural Resources the moneys he will provide for improvement works, including dredging and reconstruction, and also an extension of the pier at Helvick Harbour, County Waterford,. [26572/98]

The harbour infrastructure at Helvick is owned by Waterford County Council and development or maintenance works are, therefore, the responsibility of the local authority in the first instance.

I understand that the Department of Arts, Heritage, Gaeltacht and the Islands have provided financial assistance in the current year to Waterford County Council towards some works at Helvick.

My Department has, to date, received no current proposals from the local authority for works at Helvick.

Any proposals which the local authority wishes to put forward will be considered carefully having regard, inter alia, to available funding mechanisms and overall infrastructure investment priorities.
