Vol. 498 No. 3

Written Answers - Nuclear Waste.

Breeda Moynihan-Cronin

Question:

57 Mrs. B. Moynihan-Cronin asked the Minister for Public Enterprise the way in which she arrived at the understanding as referred to in Parliamentary Question No. 68 of 10 November 1998 that any planning or other application in connection with the proposal for a nuclear waste dump is unlikely for a considerable time; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [26907/98]

The position as set out in my reply to Parliamentary Question No. 68 of 10 November 1998 regarding reports about the proposed establishment of a nuclear waste dump in Pembrokeshire, Wales was based on inquiries made by my Department with the UK Department of the Environment, the Welsh Office and the Pembrokeshire planning authority.

As a result of further inquiries made by my Department, I can confirm that the position has not changed. According to the planning authority, no planning application has been received in respect of the project and none is envisaged for the immediate future.
