Vol. 498 No. 3

Written Answers - Excise Duties.

Michael Creed

Question:

121 Mr. Creed asked the Minister for Finance if he has received a submission from the Brewers and Malsters Guild of Ireland in relation to the advantages of a staggered excise duty regime for the Irish brewing industry; and if he will give favourable consideration to introducing the requested staggered excise duty system in view of the considerable potential that exists for job creation and increased revenue from this sector. [27134/98]

I received a total of four representations on behalf of the Brewers and Malsters Guild of Ireland, the first of which arrived on 20 November 1998. The matters raised in the representations are being examined in consultation with the Revenue Commissioners and I will issue replies on completion of this examination.

The Deputy is, no doubt, aware, of my budget statement which left alcohol excises unchanged.
