Vol. 498 No. 4

Written Answers. - Leader Programmes.

Dan Neville

Question:

232 Mr. Neville asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food if he will reconsider the decision not to sanction a grant to a person (details supplied) in County Limerick for a bed and breakfast under the Leader II programme in view of the need for this facility in the area. [27668/98]

In accordance with the bottom up philosophy of the Leader programme, the approved groups have the decision making authority in relation to the funding of individuals projects. The groups make their decisions in accordance with the priorities of the business plans which they themselves have drawn up for the developments of their areas and the operating rules set down by my Department. In this case, the particular project is excluded from funding under the operating rules by virtue of policy in the tourism sector and I do not propose to alter the situation at this stage.
