Vol. 498 No. 4

Written Answers. - Stamp Duty.

Richard Bruton

Question:

279 Mr. R. Burton asked the Minister for Finance the revenue from stamp duty raised from house sales in Dublin city and county for each of the years 1997 and 1998; and the projected revenue in this regard for 1999. [27717/98]

I am informed by the Revenue Commissioners that the data is not broken down so as to distinguish between house sales and sales of other property and between sales in Dublin city and county and sales in other local authority areas.

However, data on the amount of stamp duty collected in respect of transfers and leases of all property is available. In 1997 the yield was £254.4 million. The projected outturn for 1998 is £300 million and the projected yield for 1999 is £355 million.
The Revenue Commissioners have estimated in the past that approximately 60 per cent of the yield came from transfers and leases of residential property. However, as sufficient data is not yet available it is not possible to say whether the same percentage would apply to the projected outturn for 1998.
