Vol. 498 No. 4

Written Answers. - Road Traffic Regulations.

Richard Bruton

Question:

342 Mr. R. Bruton asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the plans, if any, he has to permit motor bikes to use bus lanes in view of their low impact on congestion and the ease of co-existence in the bus lane without delaying the speed of public transport services. [27829/98]

I have recently made regulations to allow use of bus lanes by privately-operated, in addition to public transport, buses. Pedal cycles and taxis may also use with-flow bus lanes.

I have no proposal at present to extend the use of bus lanes to other classes of vehicles.
