Vol. 498 No. 4

Written Answers. - Water and Sewerage Schemes.

Enda Kenny

Question:

346 Mr. Kenny asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government if he has received representations in respect of an extension of a regional scheme to a community (details supplied) in County Mayo; if he has examined this proposal; if he has contacted Mayo County Council in relation to the matter; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [27882/98]

I refer to the reply to Questions Nos. 268 and 269 of the 8 December 1998.

Under the rural water programme, which is administered by the local authorities, financial assistance may be available for the upgrading of group water schemes, such as Murrisk, or for the taking in charge and upgrading of the scheme by the local authority.

I will be responding further to the recent letter from the group water scheme to advise of the current position with regard to the extension of the Westport regional water supply scheme to Murrisk and areas beyond and of the options available under the devolved rural water programme.
