398 Mrs. Owen asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the number of advertisements or notices seeking submissions, job applications and so on placed by his Department in any publication, either in Ireland or abroad; the nature of these advertisement or notices; the cost of each advertisement or notice; the name of the publication; and the sum expended by his Department on these activities from July 1997 to date. [27801/98]

The information sought by the Deputy in relation to the number of advertisements or notices seeking submissions and job applications placed by my Department is as follows:

(1) A Garda recruitment campaign. The advertisements were placed in all the major national daily and weekend newspapers at a cost of £82,181.39.

(2) A competition to recruit civilian drivers for the Garda fleet. The advertisements were placed in the major national daily newspapers at a cost of £2,108.50.

(3) The provision of personnel to monitor and control Garda CCTV systems in O'Connell Street, Pearse Street, Dublin and Tralee, County Kerry. The advertisements were placed in all the major national daily and weekend newspapers and some regional newspapers at a cost, to date, of £8,811.53. (Some invoices are still outstanding). A notice was also placed in the Official Journal of the European Communities. There was no charge for this.

(4) Advertisements were placed in the national newspapers to invite submissions on any aspect of the Private Security Industry at a total cost of £2,572.76.

(5) Job advertisement for the Post of Chief Executive of the Courts Service. The advertisement was placed inThe Irish Times, The Exam iner, The Sunday Independent and Irish Independent, Sunday Tribune, Ireland on Sunday, Sunday Business Post, Foinse, Belfast Telegraph,Belfast Newsletter and the Irish News at a total cost of £24,692.10.
(6) Appointment of a High Court Judge. The advertisement was placed inThe Irish Times, The Examiner, Irish Independent, Mount Salus Press (Legal Diary) at a total cost of £4,590.86.
(7) Appointment of a Circuit Court Judge. The advertisement was placed inThe Irish Times, The Examiner, the Irish Independent, Mount Salus Press (Legal Diary) at a total cost of £4,590.86.
(8) Appointment of A Circuit Court Judge. The advertisement was placed in the Law Society of Ireland (Jan/Feb Gazette) and theBar Council Review at a total cost of £605.
(9) Appointments of three District Court Judges. The advertisement was placed inThe Irish Times, The Examiner, the Irish Independent, Mount Salus Press (Legal Diary), the Law Society of Ireland (June Gazette) and the Bar Council Review at a total cost of £6,106.51.
(10) Appointments of two High Court Judges. The advertisements were placed inThe Irish Times, The Examiner, and the Irish Independent, at a total cost of £4,715.00.
(11) Appointment of a Circuit Court Judge. The advertisement was placed inThe Irish Times, The Examiner, the Irish Independent, and Mount Salus Press (Legal Diary), at a total cost of £4,715.
(12) Job advertisement for the Post of Research Assistants. The advertisement was placed in theIrish Independent, The Irish Times and The Examiner at a total cost of £2,466.
(13) An advertisement entitled "Independent Legal Service for Applicants for Refugee Status in Ireland" inviting tenders for the Refugee Legal Service was placed in theIrish Independent, The Irish Times, The Examiner, Sunday Independent, Sunday Tribune, Ireland on Sunday, Sunday Business Post, Fóinse, the Bar Review and the Law Society Gazette at a total cost of £7,517.
(14) Competition for the engagement of persons on a contract basis to assist in interviewing applicants for refugee status. This was advertised inThe Irish Times, the Irish Independent, The Examiner, and the Evening Herald at a total cost of £2,690.74.
(15) Job advertisement for full time temporary unestablished positions as Clerical Officer and Clerical Officer Typist in the Asylum and Immigration and Citizenship Divisions of the Department and the associated office in the Garda Síochána at a total cost of £525.14.
(16) The Government decided that the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform should review the Irish Nationality and Citizenship Act with a view to seeing how it might facilitate investment in the State. The Minister appointed a review group to carry out this examination. The Review Group placed advertisements inviting written submissions inThe Irish Times, Irish Independent, The Examiner,Business and Finance and Foinse at a total cost of £5,250.
(17) The Expert Working Group on Childcare was established by the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform, under Partnership 2000, to devise a national framework for the development of childcare facilities in Ireland in the context of promoting equal opportunities. Advertisements inviting written submissions from interested parties were placed inThe Irish Times, Irish Independent, The Examiner, Evening Herald, Sunday Independent, Sunday World and Foinse at a total cost of £17,525.
(18) In June 1998, my Department placed an advertisement entitled "Discussion Paper on the Law on Sexual Offences — Invitation of Submissions", in 29 provincial newspapers, the four nationals, the two evenings, five Sunday papers andFoinse. Total cost was £20,952.52.
(19) Recruitment of two Accountants on a temporary contract basis for two years. This was advertised inThe Irish Times, Irish Independent, The Examiner, The Kerryman and The Kingdom at a total cost of £3,738.80.
(20) Following a High Court Judgement on 12 June 1998 in a judicial review case concerning the granting of hunting licences and firearms certificates to tourists the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform established the Firearms Legislation Review Group to consider amendments necessary to the Firearms Acts, 1925 to 1990. As part of their deliberations the review group invited submissions from interested organisations and members of the public. The advertisement appeared inThe Irish Times, Irish Independent and The Examiner at a total cost of £2,370.97.
(21) An advertisement requesting submissions to the Juvenile Justice Review Group was placed inThe Irish Times, Irish Independent, The Examiner andFoinse at a total cost of £3,207.
(22) Seven advertisements were placed in theSunday Independent, Sunday Tribune, Irish Independent, The Irish Times and The Examiner for the recruitment of temporary unestablished Probation and Welfare Officers in the Probation and Welfare Service at a total cost of £8,639.47.
(23) In relation to the recruitment of established Probation and Welfare officers carried out by the Civil Service Commission this Department was requested by the Commission to meet the cost of advertising in publications abroad. Advertisements were placed inThe Irish Times, The Guardian, The Scotsman and the Probation Bulletin at a total cost of £13,186.04.
(24) Advertisements inviting submissions on a consultation paper on issues arising in relation to transposition of EU Directives (95/46/EC) on data protection were placed inThe Irish Times, Irish Independent, The Examiner, Foinse and 24 provincial newspapers at a total cost of £4,992.34.
(25) Advertisements inviting submissions on the Report of the Licensing Laws on the Sub-committee on Legislation and Security of the Oireachtas Joint Committee on Justice and Women's Rights were placed inThe Irish Times, Irish Independent, The Examiner, Foinse, Licensing World, Hotel and Catering Review and 24 provincial newspapers at a total cost of £6,801.92.
(26) Locum Psychologist, Grade II, Department of Justice. The advertisement was placed inThe Irish Psychologist, Irish Independent, The Irish Times and The Examiner at a total cost of £1,869.45.
(27) Medical Recruitment for the Prison Service. The advertisements were placed in theIrish Independent, The Irish Times, The Examiner, Irish Medical News and Irish Medical Times at a total cost of £4,083.51.
(28) Part Time Doctor-Castlerea Prison. The advertisement was placed in theIrish Independent, The Irish Times, Irish Medical Times and Connacht Tribune at a total cost of £2,310.40.
(29) Dentist-Castlerea Prison. The advertisement was placed in theIrish Independent, The Irish Times, Connacht Tribune and Roscommon Herald at a total cost of £1,540.30.
(30) Part-time doctor-Shanganagh Castle. The advertisement was placed in theIrish Independent, The Irish Times, Wicklow People, Irish Medical Timesand Irish Medical News at a total cost of £2,268.50.
(31) Dental Service-Castlerea Prison. The advertisement was placed in theIrish Independent, The Irish Times, The Examiner, Connacht Tribune, Roscommon Herald, Roscommon Championand Tuam Herald at a total cost of £2,502.95.
(32) Psychiatric Service-Castlerea Prison. The advertisement was placed in theIrish Independent, The Irish Times, Connacht Tribune, Roscommon Herald, Roscommon Champion, Tuam Herald, Irish Medical Times and Irish Medical News at a total cost of £2,581.95.
(33) Catering Services-Limerick Prison. The advertisement was placed inThe Irish Times, Irish Independentand The Examiner at a total cost of £575.
(34) Part Time Doctor-Training Unit, Mountjoy Prison. The advertisement was placed inThe Irish Times, Irish Independent,Sunday Independent, Irish Medical News and Irish Medical Times at a total cost of £3,448.
(35) Two advertisements were placed inThe Irish Times, Irish Independent and The Examiner inviting submissions to the group examining the Probation and Welfare Service at a total cost of £4,196.04.
