Written Answers. - Fraud Prosecutions.

Nora Owen

Question:

400 Mrs. Owen asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the implications for the gardaí attempting to prosecute fraud cases arising out of the decision by the courts to abandon the trial of persons (details supplied) due to the fact that the law being cited in court came into force after the alleged offences. [27822/98]

The decision in the case instanced by the Deputy relates to the law on the admissibility of evidence in trials of offences. It is currently being studied to see if it has any implications for future trials.
