Question:

420 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Education and Science when the rationalisation of the Westport catchment area and Achill in County Mayo will emerge. [27431/98]

The present position is that the planning section of my Department is collating and assessing the latest statistical information regarding pupil numbers for both catchment areas. When this exercise is completed, my Department will be in contact with the relevant school authorities.

421 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Education and Science if he has considered a defined catchment area for the proposed new secondary school in Newport, County Mayo. [27432/98]

The present position is that the question of establishing a catchment area for the new school for Newport, County Mayo is being examined in my Department. As soon as the preliminary work is completed, consultations will be held with the relevant school authorities.
