Vol. 498 No. 6

Written Answers - Migraine Clinic.

John Bruton

Question:

124 Mr. J. Bruton asked the Minister for Health and Children if he will provide funding to Beaumont Hospital, Dublin 9, to enable the hospital to establish a headache and migraine clinic in view of the fact that a great number of people suffer from migraine; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [28164/98]

A new migraine clinic was established at Beaumont Hospital on a pilot basis in September 1998. Funding for this clinic is currently provided from voluntary sources by the Irish Migraine Association. Plans for providing this clinic as a hospital funded service are included in Beaumont's neurology development plans but the hospital's management has not prioritised it for funding in 1999. However, they have indicated that they hope to be in a position to include this service in its priorities for development in 2000-2001.
