Vol. 498 No. 6

Written Answers - Sports Capital Programme.

Alan Shatter

Question:

161 Mr. Shatter asked the Minister for Tourism, Sport and Recreation if he will make available the sum of £100,000 to a club (details supplied) for the provision of its new clubhouse and community centre for the people of Whitechurch, Ballyboden, and to give priority to its application for funding as a community based club. [28198/98]

An application for funding under the sports capital programme operated by my Department was received from the club in November. 1997. The 1998 round of allocations under the programme was made earlier this year and all funds have now been committed to a number of projects around the country. The club was advised in April 1998 and again in August 1998 that they are not among the projects approved for grant aid in 1998.

The sports capital programme has been under review by my Department for the past few months. The review has just been completed, and I expect details of the new programme to be announced shortly. The programme will be widely publicised and it will then be open to clubs and organisations to apply for funding.
