John Bruton

Question:

104 Mr. J. Bruton asked the Minister for Finance when work will commence on the European Plant and Veterinary Office at Grange, Dunsany, County Meath; the progress, if any, made to date in this regard; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [27238/98]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 13 and 104 together.

The tendering process for the construction of the European Union Food and Veterinary Office at Grange, Dunsany, County Meath was completed in June 1998 and a developer has been provisionally selected. The Advisory Committee on Purchase and Contracts of the European Commission has given outline approval to the scheme subject to agreement on legal documentation. The legal documents required for the procurement and lease-purchase of the building are almost agreed with the Commission. When the legal service of the European Commission gives its approval to the documentation work on the European Union Food and Veterinary Office will commence. I am confident that work will start very early in the new year.
