Vol. 498 No. 6

Written Answers - Vehicle Registration Tax.

Michael Noonan

Question:

51 Mr. Noonan asked the Minister for Finance if he will introduce measures in the Finance Bill to ensure that persons who have purchased cars which will not be registered until 1999 are exempt from the increase in vehicle registration tax announced in the budget; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [27936/98]

As the Deputy is aware, the House approved a resolution, on budget night to implement the new rates of vehicle registration tax, with effect from 1 January 1999. Therefore all cars registered after that date will be subject to the new rates.

I have no plans to introduce an amendment to the Resolution in the Finance Bill.
