Vol. 499 No. 1

Written Answers. - Tax Reliefs.

John Gormley

Question:

159 Mr. Gormley asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment the plans, if any, she has to incorporate provision of information to the public concerning incorporated bodies which have been granted charitable status into the work of the companies registration office; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [1270/99]

The granting of tax-exempt status to charities is a matter for the Revenue Commisioners, and I am informed by them that exemptions are granted to both incorporated and unincorporated bodies. I understand from Revenue that a list of tax-exempt charities is currently being made available to the public.

For these reasons, I have no plans to require companies which have tax-exempt charitable status to place that information on the public record in the Companies Registration Office.
