Vol. 499 No. 1

Written Answers. - Tax Rebate.

Liam Aylward

Question:

494 Mr. Aylward asked the Minister for Finance if a rebate of income tax will be arranged for a person (details supplied) in County Carlow. [1316/99]

I am informed by the Revenue Commissioners that the inspector of taxes has no record of having received an application for a tax refund from the taxpayer.

A certificate of tax-free allowances, based on the information available to the inspector of taxes, issued to the taxpayer when he took up employment on 29 June 1998. The certificate is effective from that date as the inspector does not have any information about the taxpayer's income in the period from 6 April 1998 to 28 June 1998. The inspector has written to the taxpayer requesting information about his income, including social welfare income if any, during that period. On receipt of this information, a revised certificate of tax-free allowances will be issued to the taxpayer and any refund of tax which may be due will then be made by his employer.
