Vol. 499 No. 1

Written Answers. - Tobacco-Related Diseases.

Alan Shatter

Question:

526 Mr. Shatter asked the Minister for Health and Children the progress, if any, made to date in determining whether the State should bring appropriate court actions against tobacco companies to recoup compensation per expenditure incurred by the State and each health board in the treatment of tobacco related illnesses. [2058/99]

Litigation by the State against the tobacco industry to recoup expenditure incurred in treating tobacco-related illnesses is one of the issues being considered by the smoke free policy group established by me. The group expects to have a report for me shortly.
