Vol. 499 No. 1

Written Answers. - Hospital Boards.

Liz McManus

Question:

546 Ms McManus asked the Minister for Health and Children when boards will be re-appointed at St. James's Hospital, Dublin 8, and Beaumont Hospital, Dublin 9, in view of the fact that the terms of the former members expired at the end of 1998 and the importance of having representative boards for large acute hospitals; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [1365/99]

The statutory instrument giving effect to the composition of the board at St. James's Hospital provides for the appointment of not more than 15 members. The chairman has been appointed and the procedures for the appointment of the remaining members are in place. These appointments will be made in the immediate future.

The statutory instrument governing the appointment of members to the Beaumont Hospital Board provides for the appointment of not more than 15 members to the board. The term of office of the members of the board, with the exception of the chairman, expired on 3 December 1998. I have now appointed ten members to the Beaumont Hospital Board. Their term of office will end on 3 December 1999. The chairman's term of office will expire on 13 January 2000. Decision in relation to the remaining members will be made in the immediate future.
