Alan Shatter

Question:

560 Mr. Shatter asked the Minister for Health and Children the number of reports of child abuse or neglect in each health board made during 1998; the number of reports in respect of which investigation and assessment are outstanding at 31 December 1998; and the number of reports which have resulted in it being concluded that a child is or is not a victim, or at risk, of abuse or neglect. [1591/99]

The information sought by the Deputy is not yet available. The Department is undertaking a major review of the management information requirements of the child care services with a view to establishing a national child care database. In the meantime, in consultation with the health boards, an interim minimum data set is currently being established which will provide essential routine data pending the establishment of a full national child care database. It is anticipated that data in relation to 1998 will be available in the very near future from the new arrangement. When it is available the information sought will be made available to the Deputy.
