Question:

590 Mr. Neville asked the Minister for Health and Children the number of suicides by gender and age profile for age categories (details supplied) in 1998. [1825/99]

Data on mortality are routinely published in the annual and quarterly reports on vital statistics compiled by the Central Statistics Office. The most recent figures available refer to the second quarter of 1998. The following table sets out the number of deaths from suicide by age group and sex for the period January to June 1998.
