Question:

653 Mr. Howlin asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government if he will approve the Terryglass sewerage scheme, County Tipperary, as part of the Lough Derg submission for EU funds in order to ensure that this scheme commences in 1999. [28342/98]

A brief, and a proposal under the reedbeds wetlands sub-programme, has been submitted to my Department for this scheme. The scheme is included in my Department's 1999 water and sewerage services investment programme to be advanced through planning as an Exchequer funded scheme.

654 Mr. U. Burke asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government if final grants will be made available to the Ballinasloe regional supply extension to Lawrence town Eyrecourt water scheme; when approval will be granted in this regard; the reason for the delay in this scheme; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [28363/98]

Contract documents for this scheme have been submitted to my Department. Additional information in relation to aspects of the estimated cost of the scheme requested from Galway County Council was recently received and is being examined. The scheme is included in my Department's 1999 water and sewerage services investment programme to start construction this year.

This scheme has been included in my Department's 1999 water and sewerage services investment programme as a scheme to be advanced through planning.

Brendan Howlin

Question:

656 Mr. Howlin asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government if he will provide funding to upgrade the Newport regional water supply scheme, County Tipperary. [1031/99]

A brief and a supplementary report for this scheme were submitted to my Department in 1993 and 1998 respectively but have not been approved. As the scheme is not included in the 1999 water and sewerage services investment programme it comes within the terms of my Department's circular letter L9/98 of 22 October 1998. This circular asked each local authority to undertake a fresh assessment of the needs for capital works in its area and to prepare a prioritised list of projects based on the assessment. The priority lists will be taken into consideration by my Department in framing future water and sewerage services investment programmes under the next national development plan 2000-06.
