Vol. 499 No. 1

Written Answers. - Motorcycle Licences.

John Perry

Question:

675 Mr. Perry asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government if a motorbike licence will be granted to a person (details supplied) in County Sligo in view of the fact that he already had one prior to 1978 and is not covered for a motorbike under the new licence; if a favourable decision will be made in this regard; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [1401/99]

While the person concerned passed a car driving test on 28 April 1978, there is no record of him having undergone a motorcycle test. The issue of driving licences is a matter for individual licensing authorities. I understand however that there is no record in either Leitrim or Sligo licensing authorities of the person concerned having held a driving licence for a motorcycle category at any stage. A licence for a motorcycle issued prior to 1978 would not in any case be renewable at this stage as the period within which a lapsed licence may be renewed, without passing a driving test, is ten years.
