Question:

742 Mr. Deenihan asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government when he will sign the contract documents for the head works for Brosna group water scheme; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [2236/99]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 677 and 742 together.

As I indicated in my reply to Question No. 308 of the 10 November 1998, Kerry County Council has submitted a revised report on tenders for this scheme. This report is currently under consideration in my Department. The signing of a contract in relation to any water services scheme is entirely a matter for the contracting parties concerned, and I have no function in the matter. I am not in a position to indicate at this stage when work will commence on the scheme.
