Jimmy Deenihan

Question:

678 Mr. Deenihan asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government when finance for the proposed new library for Castleisland, County Kerry, will be provided; when the project will commence; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [1429/99]

A proposal for a branch library at Castleisland, County Kerry, was received in my Department in December 1995. This was not advanced due to the large number of proposals on hands and the limited funding available at that time. However, the capital allocation for library improvements has been increased from £2.76 million in 1998 to £7.2 million this year. Against this background, I intend to write to local authorities in the near future requesting them to update and, where appropriate, prioritise all their library proposals.

All library proposals on hands, including the Castleisland proposal, will be reassessed in the light of the responses from library atuhorities and the increased funding available.

Question:

679 Ms O'Sullivan asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the consideration his Department is giving to the proposal for a branch library in Moyross, Limerick; if funding has been allocated for the project; the projected date of proceeding; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [1433/99]

A proposal for a branch library at Moyross, Limerick, was received in my Department in November 1996.
