Vol. 499 No. 1

Written Answers. - Water and Sewerage Schemes.

Jim O'Keeffe

Question:

711 Mr. J. O'Keeffe asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the reason for the delay in implementing stage two of Bandon main drainage scheme; if his attention has been drawn to the urgent need for the scheme; and if he is in a position to grant approval in this regard. [1743/99]

A revised preliminary report for this scheme submitted to my Department in August 1997 has not been approved. As the scheme is not included in the 1999 water and sewerage services investment programme it comes within the terms of my Department's circular letter L9/98 of 22 October 1998. This circular asked each local authority to undertake a fresh assessment of the needs for capital works in its area and to prepare a prioritised list of projects based on the assessment. The priority lists will be taken into consideration by my Department in framing future water and sewerage services investment programmes under the next National Development Plan 2000-06.

Enda Kenny

Question:

713 Mr. Kenny asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government if he has received the application from Mayo County Council for provision of a major regional water supply extension from Srah, Tourmakeady to Westport, Tourmakeady, County Mayo, in order to augment the Westport town water supply and to eventually cater for others from Louisburgh to Newport; if so, if he will give approval to the council's designs and plans; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [1817/99]

Michael Ring

Question:

714 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government when he will approve the amended proposals for the provision of a proper water supply to Murrisk, Lecanvey and Louisburgh, County Mayo. [1864/99]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 713 and 714 together.

As the scheme is not included in the 1999 water and sewerage services investment programme it comes within the terms of my Department's circular letter L9/98 of 22 October 1998. Michael Ring

Question:

715 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the reason for the delay with the Westport sewerage scheme, County Mayo; and when work will commence in this regard. [1865/99]

The planning and design stages of this scheme have been approved for funding under the EU Cohesion Fund. However, a source of funding has not yet been identified for the main construction works. In the meantime an advance section of the scheme, sewer rehabilitation works, has been included in the Department's 1999 water and sewerage services investment programme to start construction, while the remainder is included to be advanced through planning.
