Vol. 499 No. 1

Written Answers. - Departmental Properties.

Bernard J. Durkan

Question:

762 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Social, Community and Family Affairs if, in relation to lands, properties, stocks or other valuables disposed by his Department since coming into office, he will outline to whom these were disposed and whether by tender, sale or other means; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [2265/99]

The only items which would be disposed of by my Department would be furniture and office equipment.

My Department generally disposes of obsolete computer, office and telecommunications equipment by trade-in, where possible, or by scrappage. Occasionally used or obsolete equipment which may have some residual value is given to community and voluntary groups or sold to individuals at the depreciated value at the time. Certain items of furniture which were no longer required are returned to the Office of Public Works for disposal through their normal channels.
