Vol. 499 No. 1

Written Answers. - Firearms Regulations.

Brendan Howlin

Question:

800 Mr. Howlin asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if he has recently considered requests for the return of pistols and revolvers which had been used for sporting purposes and which were impounded under the Firearms Temporary Custody Order, 1972; his views on whether the return of these weapons is appropriate; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [1126/99]

A review of the current policy in relation to the licensing of handguns in the State was completed in 1996 but it was not considered that the time was opportune for a change in policy. While I do not yet consider that the time is appropriate for a change in that policy the matter is being kept under review by my Department.
