Vol. 499 No. 1

Written Answers. - Operation Freeflow.

Olivia Mitchell

Question:

801 Ms O. Mitchell asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if he will provide the £5 million annual operating cost of year round operation freeflow as recommended in the Dublin Transportation Office's short-term action plan submitted to Government in summer 1998. [1127/99]

I am informed by the Garda authorities that following the success of the recent Christmas 1998 ‘Operation Freeflow' campaign, a review of its effectiveness is being carried out by the Garda in conjunction with the other agencies involved in this campaign, including the Department of the Environment and Local Government, the Department of Public Enterprise, the Dublin Transportation Office, Dublin Bus and the four local authorities concerned.

The question of extending this operation and any additional costs will be considered in the context of this review.
