Vol. 499 No. 1

Written Answers. - Garda Deployment.

Liz McManus

Question:

832 Ms McManus asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform when Annagry Garda station, County Donegal, will be brought up to the minimum manning level of one garda and one sergeant obtaining there several years ago in view of the almost zero manning level at the station. [1714/99]

The detailed deployment of Garda personnel to individual areas is a matter for the Garda authorities who have informed me that the current personnel strength of Annagry station as of 5 January 1999 is one Garda.

The station is open to the public from 10 a.m. to 12 noon on days when the allocated Garda is on duty. When the station is unmanned the "Green Man" facility linked to the district headquarters at Glenties comes into operation. For the purpose of night patrols personnel from Annagry, Burtonport and Dungloe frequently amalgamate to patrol the three sub-districts concerned.

I am further informed by the Garda authorities that they are satisfied with the current policing arrangements in Annagry. However, the needs of the Donegal division will be considered in conjunction with all other divisions throughout the country when personnel of sergeant rank next become available.
