Vol. 499 No. 1

Written Answers. - Departmental Properties.

Bernard J. Durkan

Question:

839 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if, in relation to lands, properties, stocks or other valuables disposed by his Department since coming into office, he will outline to whom these were disposed and whether by tender, sale or other means; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [2269/99]

I can inform the Deputy that my Department recently advertised for sale by tender property at Merchant's Road Lower, Galway. After a public tendering process my Department has accepted the highest tender. As this matter is not yet finalised, I am not in a position to release the name of the successful tenderer.

Motor vehicles no longer required by the Garda Síochána are sold at auction. Invitations to tender for the auctioning of Garda vehicles are advertised periodically in the national newspapers. The contract is awarded in accordance with normal public procurement procedures and is currently held by Gunne Auctioneers.

Other minor obsolete items are disposed of in various ways, by scrapping, selling locally or by donation to charity. Providing an exhaustive list of all purchasers would involve very considerable time and effort which could not, I feel, be justified. If, however, the Deputy is concerned about any particular disposal, perhaps he would write to me and I will endeavour to get the facts.
