I am informed by the Garda authorities that the following statistics set out the position for offences recorded in 1998 where the discharge of a firearm resulted in injury (including fatal) to a person:

Recorded:

20

Detected:

I understand that the law officer's directions are awaited in a further two cases.
I am also informed that four of the 20 cases recorded involved fatal injury.
