Vol. 499 No. 1

Written Answers. - URBAN Operational Programme.

Proinsias De Rossa

Question:

860 Proinsias De Rossa asked the Minister for Tourism, Sport and Recreation if his attention has been drawn to the fact that the building and fittings of the Ballymun Arts and Community Resource Centre will cost £5.73 million and that the money available at this time is £4.117 million; if he will make up the shortfall to ensure that this essential resource is made available to the people of Ballymun as part of the Ballymun regeneration project; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [2272/99]

As the Deputy is aware, the Ballymun Arts and Community Resource Centre is one of over 50 projects identified by the north Dublin URBAN steering group in its action plan for support from the EU co-funded URBAN initiative.

I have no responsibility in relation to the allocation of URBAN funding to individual projects. This rests with the local steering groups, all of which are independent companies established under the Companies Acts.
The Ballymun regeneration project operates under the aegis of the Department of the Environment and Local Government and, therefore, any questions relating to the allocation of funds for that project are matters for my colleague, the Minister for the Environment and Local Government.
