Vol. 499 No. 1

Written Answers. - Schools Building Projects.

Dick Spring

Question:

918 Mr. Spring asked the Minister for Education and Science if moneys have been provided in the 1999 Estimates for the commencement of works on the proposed amalgamation of Balloonagh and Moyderwell secondary schools at Mounthawk, Tralee, County Kerry. [1204/99]

The school authority has been requested to submit the detail design for the proposed new school at Mounthawk, Tralee, County Kerry. The remaining stages are the preparation of a bill of quantities and the invitation of tenders.

When these stages have been completed the question of allocating financial resources for the project will be considered in the light of the available capital resources and the Department's other commitments and priorities.

I would, however, point out that the provision of £58 million for post-primary school building projects in this year's Estimates, in comparison with £30 million in the 1997 budget, will enable me to proceed with a significantly increased number of projects.
