Vol. 499 No. 1

Written Answers. - Educational Projects.

Brian O'Shea

Question:

920 Mr. O'Shea asked the Minister for Education and Science if he will allocate a co-ordinator to the Special Learning Support Project, Southside Partnership, 45 Upper George's Street, Dún Laoghaire, County Dublin; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [1228/99]

I am not in a position at present to allocate a co-ordinator post to the project in question. To the extent that teacher posts become available for allocation, they are primarily focused on addressing needs in the in-school situation. Such allocations can take the form of remedial teachers, resource teachers, concessionary teachers and home-school-community liaison posts. I understand that schools in the partnership area in question are already in receipt of a significant range of special support teachers. However, many other schools are in need of such service and it is necessary that their needs be addressed as a priority.

I can assure the Deputy that this project will be fully considered if co-ordinator posts become available in the future.
