Vol. 499 No. 1

Written Answers. - National Lottery Funding.

Jim Higgins

Question:

110 Mr. Higgins (Mayo) asked the Minister for Health and Children if he will make lottery funding available to replace a 20 year old Irish Wheel chair Association minibus in County Mayo; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [1377/99]

I assume the Deputy is referring to the Irish Wheelchair Association (Castlebar Branch) which applied to my Department for a grant from the 1998 health allocation of national lottery funds towards the purchase of a bus adapted for wheelchair users.

I would like to inform the Deputy that applications for national lottery grants far exceed resources and as the funds available for 1998 have been disbursed it was not possible to assist in this particular case.

The Irish Wheelchair Association (Castlebar Branch) was informed of the position by my Department in a letter dated 7 January 1999.
