137 Ms McManus asked the Minister for Health and Children if he has received a report from the North-Eastern Health Board on the outcome of the investigation commissioned from the Institute of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists that a number of caesarean hysterectomies had been carried out unnecessarily by a consultant in the area; if so, the outcome of this investigation; and if he will make a statement on the matter. The matter referred to by the Deputy is being investigated by an expert group nominated by the Institute of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists, at the instigation of the North-Eastern Health Board. I understand that the expert group's report is expected in a few months. I must emphasise that this is an issue for the North-Eastern Health Board and it would be inappropriate for me to intervene, or to comment on an investigation that is still proceeding.
