Vol. 499 No. 4

Written Answers. - Roads Funding.

Jack Wall

Question:

140 Mr. Wall asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the plans, if any, he has to provide funding to Kildare County Council for road improvement schemes for county roads which are of such poor quality they cannot be repaired under the discretionary grant scheme; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [2862/99]

The maintenance/ improvement of non-national roads in their area is a matter for Kildare County Council, to be funded from their own resources, supplemented by central Government grants. Kildare County Council has recently been allocated a total of £8,055,000 in non-national road grants for 1999, which represents an increase of 14 per cent on the original 1998 allocation.
