Vol. 499 No. 4

Written Answers. - Student Support Schemes.

John McGuinness

Question:

158 Mr. J. McGuinness asked the Minister for Education and Science the reason An Grianán College, County Louth, is not included on the VEC lists of recognised colleges providing courses in horticulture; and the reason a grant for this course at this college was not given to a person (details supplied) in County Kilkenny. [2893/99]

Under the terms of the maintenance grants scheme for students attending post-leaving certificate courses, an approved course means a full-time post-leaving certificate course of at least one year's duration which is approved by the Minister for Education and Science for the purposes of the scheme.

I have approved all of the post-leaving certificate courses which are funded under the ESF arrangements for inclusion in the maintenance grants scheme.

I understand that students attending the College of Horticulture at An Grianán are eligible to apply for grant aid from Teagasc.
