Question:

163 Mrs. T. Ahearn asked the Minister for Education and Science if funding will be made available to provide a library in Thomastown national school in County Tipperary; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [3000/99]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 162 and 163 together.

My Department has no record of having received a request from Thomastown national school for additional accommodation, or for improved facilities.

If an application is received, it will be considered. In terms of minor improvements to national schools, each national school is paid an annual grant of £2,000, plus £9 per pupil, and should not apply to the Department for works which come within the terms of this devolved grant scheme.

Detailed queries concerning VAT regulations should be addressed to the Revenue Commissioners.
