Vol. 499 No. 4

Written Answers. - Industrial Development.

Pádraic McCormack

Question:

61 Mr. McCormack asked the Minister for Arts, Heritage, Gaeltacht and the Islands the proposals, if any, she has to increase opportunities for industrial development in the Gaeltacht areas; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [2802/99]

In 1999 the Government through my Department will continue to provide substantial funding (£26.4 million capital compared with £22.1 million capital in 1998) to Údarás na Gaeltachta to enable it to carryout its remit in relation to the industrial and economic development of the Gaeltacht and the creation of employment opportunities therein. It will be a matter for an tÚdarás to use those funds so as to achieve the best possible results.

My primary role in this matter is the provision of finance to Údarás na Gaeltachta. I enclose for the Departments attention details of the funding provided to Údarás na Gaeltachta for the 3 years 97, 98 and 99.
